STORY
Ibrahim Aliatar, also known as Ali al-Attar the “spice seller”, was the mayor of Loja. In 1482 he was able to confront 5,000 Christian soldiers having only 3,000 soldiers in his own ranks. He was feared on the frontier, and the fields as far away as Lucena were known as “Aliatar’s vegetable garden”. He died aged 80 while defending his city in the battle of Lucena still fighting on horseback.
