1. FOUNTAIN OF THE CHURCH
SAINT-GABRIEL

STORY

Listen to the noises, the shouts, the laughter… They are running around, going up and down the stairs, changing classrooms… Yes, listen up! You will hear the girls who, until the 60s, studied at the school called ‘La Graduada’, which was later demolished. The girls couldn’t wait for their recess to start, looking forward to drinking the glass of powdered milk they were given at school, which they would sweeten with their own sugar and cinnamon brought from home.

The school was located in an old stately house and had three patios. The first one was a quadrangular patio with marble columns and a big staircase. The second patio was long and had a big fountain in the middle, from which the old service rooms could be seen. From there, some stairs connected to a third patio, consisting of a garden and a pond.

Today, you can find instead a marble fountain with four lions which evokes the famous ‘Fountain of the Lions’ at The Alhambra.
